History The Center for Public Awareness in Bioethics (CPAB) was informally launched on March 27, 2008. A formal public inauguration of the Center is scheduled for a later date.
Bioethics and the Public
Dear Public,
If ethics is our care for the
good of humanity, bioethics is about protecting human dignity and human rights
in the fields of biotechnology, medicine and public health. Yes, most of the
times we care about the good of our fellow humans. But there is always the need
to join hands and to have a common resolve to protect and promote human dignity,
rights and wellbeing. Hence, we have launched the Center for Public Awareness in Bioethics (CPAB).
Biotechnology, modern medicine and programs in
public health do improve quality of life and further our health and happiness.
We also know that biotechnology, medicine and healthcare systems should be
practiced with adequate respect for common humanity, human development,
universal peace and environmental protection. But sometimes individuals and
agencies overlook many ethical questions involved in biotechnology, medicine and
public health, and often the general public is kept in the dark about it. Hence
there a great need to educate and inform the public in bioethics and to help
them make informed and responsible decisions in their lives that would safeguard
and promote greater good of humanity, without, however, violating the
inalienable worth and dignity of the human person. The Center for Public
Awareness in Bioethics (CPAB) is designed to operate with this purpose in
mind.
CBAP seeks to identify problems
and to find plausible solutions related to bioethics and the public. We are
interested in your experiences and bioethical concerns related to
biotechnology, healthcare, medicine, public health, biosafety and the
environment. We would appreciate if you shared (submit) your experiences, concerns and opinions for the benefit of the public.
Sincerely, Becky A. McClain Founder-Director, CPAB
