Bioethics

Bioethics! Isn’t that an intriguing word?  It is so new that it needs definition and understanding because your life can depend on it.  It has two important words bonded into one:  bio, meaning life, and ethics meaning moral standards for life.

Some concerned people are trying to develop uses for this new term to see how it can help us, both physically and morally.  When we look at our nation, the United States, we see serious problems facing us, systems that ignore our basic health problems, giving us prescriptions that may not help us at all.   And most doctors don’t call us to find how the medications are affecting us.  The usual excuse is that they are too busy and the need to keep medical records is too demanding.

Can the system be changed?  Yes, if we work together to demand changes, whatever it takes.  We have to learn how to speak up and insist on better care.

A major factor in calling for changes is the great controls the medical profession has, and the pharmaceutical companies who lobby our Congress in ways that support doctors’ poor standards of behavior.
